NEW MUSIC
Last Friday (9/12), I released my latest single “I Know You”. I love this song. Very proud.
It’s a record of trivia facts about my ex. I continually find it surprising that although the lyrics are so specific to this particular individual, the song still resonates with listeners (at least that's what ppl be telling me; they could be blowing smoke up my a$$).
But then again, of my favorite songwriting ideals is something I discovered for myself then found had already been put into words by John Mayer:
"That's when I get writer's block because I try to basically write a song to fill the entire galaxy, and I've never gotten a song that way. But if I write a song about something the size of a glass of water and I do it right, I notice a week later it's got the universe in it. ' 🚰
The power of songwriting is in the details. And I hope these details worm their way into your heart and trigger your own details. Sonically, this song is my favorite record thus fat. The delicate balance of the twinkly piano with the reverberating guitar parts, all grounded by the relentless plucking of the upright bass... ugh. Great work, team.
Studio went quite well. Stressful af... but successful. We recorded 5 songs, 2 of which make me pee my pants because I'm so excited about how they turned out. The other 3 are also incredible, just older compositions. Those feel good in a different way since they've been sitting on the shelf, patiently awaiting their turn to be heard. Post-studio, I worked with Invoke to track strings on 4 of the 6 tunes. Yes. I know. I just said 5 songs, but the sixth song is ALL strings, so we will now have 6 to release on an EP. I'm very excited. Strings arranged and performed by the wonderful and charming and professionals, Invoke.
Music is now being co-produced, then mixed and mastered by Grant Eppley. He's incredible. Be excited.
Now when I say EP.....
I'm sure you don't believe me. Since the last "EP" was meant to come out in May. But tbh, I was never really married to that date. If I'm being so foreal, I have no idea what I'm doing lmaooo. I was advised to release the tunes as singles then RE release as a full EP, which is what I did. I do stand by this decision as it allowed me to release music as quickly as possible to have SOMETHING for ppl to listen to. There's nothing like performing an original set, and someone asks where they can listen to your music, and you have to say... "You can't." Embarasssssssing.
SO I put the tunes out asap will soon release them (october 17th? 3rd? we will see) ACTUALLY wait I should put them out Oct 3rd bc then I can quote Mean Girls "I asked him what day it was, he said Oct 3rd") omg that would slayyyyy ok i might do that
Although it is LATE, I think it will be worth the wait as I finally figured out an aesthetic/visual brand that I'm excitedededed about!!!!🏆 It's been difficult to think of something that feels true to myself and is strong enough to stand out among the other trillions of indie artists. Personally, I think it's super cute and authentic to me and blah blah blah all the things a brand should be. I hope you like it, but even if you don't, I think I still will!!! (that's growth). Stay posted for that announcement: sometime soon (again, idk I'm figuring it out)🥇

LOL ikr like what why jess and im like idkkkk for fun!! The opp came up, and I am going to take advantage of it since work is still -- regrettably and stressfully -- quite slow. So I'll see you come October when the weather is nicer, the ACL has arrived, and fall is upon us.
