Summer in the City 🌆🗽

Me and the INCREDIBLE Kevin Lovejoy outside this delicious spot in Piermont, NY. An honor and a joy to sing alongside him and learn just by listening. Fun fact: Kevin is actually the man and the mentor who first invited me to the Elephant Room and brought me into the jazz world. I owe him a lot.

Hope you’re staying hydrated, sunscreened!!! and appropriately dramatic about the summer heat. I’ve actually been lucky enough to avoid the intense Texas summer by spending my July in NYC. I've been taking some meetings, a few gigs here and there (w the legendary Kevin Lovejoy), walking, subway-ing, and most importantly, spending time with my loved ones on the east coast.

People be seeing my manhattan IG stories lately, wondering if I'm moving to nyc. Have no fear: I have no immediate plans to relocate. There is more work to be done in this indie-friendly market that is the 'live music capital of the world. Rest assured, I will make it known if and when I decide to exit the Lonestar state and tackle Yankeeville--where they think 82 degrees and cloudy is "brutal" lmaooooo

New Song Alert 🚨

Regardless of geographic location, I was able to release—rather quietly—a new single on all streaming platforms. “Dumb Enough” is back, this time with a full band: electric guitar, bangin' drums, sick electric bass, keys, and the sweet background vocals of Lizzie Budin.

This a very self-pitying track which... sometimes you need. An honest expression of self-doubt, rejection sensitivity, and imposter syndrome, singing this song feels like pressing on a toothache. Listen below, and if you feel so inclined, share with friends and followers to spread the word.

August Shows

After spending my off-season in NYC, I’m back in Austin and playing again by August 1st. Full calendar is live on the shows page of website — come say hi if you're around.

Let me highlight a few that you won't want to miss:
Summer tends to slow down this time of year, and August is no exception—so while I don’t have as many shows as usual, I’d still love to see your face at the ones that are happening.

Romeo Report 🐶

Romeo is living his best life back in Austin. I have amazing friends taking care of his sweet little booty. It seems, however, that I should've warned them that he roots through trash. And snacks. And countertops. Lolollolololllll my bad.

I'm also finding that while it's ofc nice to take a break from parenting, wowowow do I miss my boy. I wish I could fly him HERE without paying like $1000 and risking his life with careless airport staff and crazy cargo hold conditions. If you have any ideas how I can do this, lemme knowwwww

Good News Corner ✨

⭐ I spent a month in NYC just enjoying the off-season
⭐ The band is locked and loaded for August gigs
⭐ New singles from the past few months: You Poor Thing, Irrelevant, Dumb Enough
⭐ More and more new music on the way

I hope to get some new momentum going heading out of Q3 and into Q4. Lately, I find myself wondering if I've made any progress over the last six months. A dear friend and mentor has consoled me saying that I'm too hard on myself. I took the first 1.5 years in music ramping up a full-time professional career--accelerating from 0 to 65 mph. It all felt very exciting and productive. Now, he says, I haven't slowed down, I'm just coasting at the same 65mph. But because I'm used to it, it feels like I'm doing nothing.

Even still, I worry that I've been a lil held back by complacency and distracted with the pleasures of youth and freedom of self-employment. That being said, you are a huge blessing. Your continued support doubles as accountability: asking about my next newsletter or show or release. So as always, thank you for reading. Appreciate you very much.

See you soon.
xoxo,
gossip girl
