⤷ AI Summary: ruins boxed red wine, ill-fitting jean shorts
Sexxxxx. Guys. This song is about sex. Plain and simple.
This is the oldest original song that I still play out, so it’s very very cool that it’s lasted this long. (That’s what she said.) Since it was written in the summer of 2019, I haven't changed much of anything. I sing the same lyrics and play the same voicings. The recording I put out even executes the orignal pop-soul-jam-party vision that I always had for this song. Like "Put Your Records On" but with a huge studio fade.
My one regret is keeping the word "fully" in verse 2. Once the song went public, I suddenly realized this word is rhythmically clunky, completely unecessary and dilutes the phrase. Rip.
During this time, I was really getting into boxed red wine. I very soon got out of it. This era was also marked by the transition of "corona" to "covid-19," pairing sorority shirts with much-too-big jean shorts, and brutal San Marcos summer heat.

Cover Art
I've relied on other (wonderful) ppl pretty heavily in the visual art space. Always hiring someone or asking a friend to create a flyer, logo, photo edit, etc. At some point, relying on other ppl gets old. I thought I'd try my hand at a "rough sketch" just to see if I had an idea worth working on, but when I sent this image (and a couple slight variations) around, friends loved it so much that I kept it the way it was. I wasn't sure about it--especially the font--my friends convinced me it worked. And I kind of love that my first DIY cover was an accident!

A Twist!
One thing about this song that might surprise you is that it wasn't written to another person... but to myself. I mean, there was another person involved in the situation, yes. And THAT is the person I wanted to "get with." But that other person had no issue getting in on. I was actually the one getting in the way--as I often am.
You'll notice the speaker in this song (me) does their best to justify, qualify and explain the feelings they are experiencing as reason enough to go through with it. The heart wants what it wants, but this speaker needs the mind to agree before she can do anything fun.
This conflict comes from a whole bunch of religious guilt and social guilt and overanalyzing social dynamics and blah blah blah tbh just being ridiculous. It wasn’t that deep! And on some level, I knew that, which is why I wrote this song as pep talk to take the plunge and get it on. Like.. girl. Live a little.
Here are the lyrics — you’ll see me arguing with myself in real time, trying to talk my way into having fun.

Lyrics
Only once in a while comes a guy who makes me feel the way you do
You check the boxes off, keep the talking soft, know how to play it cool
And I see the way you look at me: undressing me in your mind
If I could say then I would say baby that’s fine
Get with me, we don’t need to overthink
Get with me, let our hands start wandering
Get with me, I know you want to
Get with me, I feel it’s time to
Only once in a while I get so riled up I forget myself
Let the wine fully hit it’s prime, my inhibitions melt
Now I don’t need a reason more than the way you look
Slide over a little closer so I can make you feel good
Get with me, we don’t need to overthink just
Get with me, let our hands start wandering
Get with me, I know you want to just
Get with me, I feel it’s time to
Get with me, led your body lead
Get with me, your body knows what it needs
Get with me, let your body lead
Get with me, set your body free
Get with me, we don’t need to overthink just
Get with me, let our hands start wandering
Get with me, I know you want to just
Get with me, I feel it’s time to
I feel it’s time to
I know it’s time to
I say it’s time to
Get with me
